Gunfire in Manipur reported, one injured ahead of elections

Imphal, Manipur, April 12 (HBTV): Manipur continues to be in a state of turmoil, still hurting from the ethnic conflict that started in May 2023, and taking the tensions into the Lok Sabha elections.      



Just six days ahead of Lok Sabha elections, violence again broke out in Manipur after relative calm for some time. One person named Ningthoujam Jamesh Singh, approximately 24 years of age, reportedly sustained injuries in gun fights that broke out at Penyang village. The injured person is said to be from Heirok part-2, Maning Leikai in Thoubal district of Manipur.                 



Villagers and eye witnesses said it was the first report of shooting in the state since the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates.                



The Lok Sabha election for the Inner Manipur constituency is scheduled to be held on the 19th, while for Outer Manipur constituency, the voting is scheduled to be held on April 26. In spite of all the efforts by law enforcing agencies, violence continues to be reported in the state. It remains to be seen how quickly security agencies respond to the latest developments.
